Spent the weekend playing in some real laid back clubs in Prague and so got the feeling of groove in me. This week’s set brings together a nice collection of groovy, downtempo drum and bass replete with vocalists galore and all that liquid goodness you so deserve. Highlights on this set include the opening track from Random Movement Her Song, Alix Perez’s Crooklyn and another track from Random Movement, Psychedelic Drainpipe which I must say is definitely the tune of the week. It has such a kicking bassline that you just can’t get it out of your head.

This week I am honoring the brave men and women of the Hungarian Drum and Bass scene. Not only are there a number of world-class producers (Chrsi Su, SKC and Mindscape to name but a few) calling these parts home but recently a new weekly dnb party started on Thursdays — and entry is free of charge! This is a fact worth celebrating to be sure. Interestingly enough, this is not the first such free dnb party; last summer there was an outdoor venue on an island (so surrounded in a natural park sort of landscape) which hosted the likes of Bizzy B, The Upbeats and Spor and all for free. Incredible. So, because the drum and bass scene is giving me something good, I thought I’d return the favor. The Modern Sound of the Hungarian Underground is just that, modern tunes. Most of the tunes in the mix are from post-2005 and some were just released this year. I’ll just say that the set opener, Chris Su’s Solaris, is currently among my favorite tunes while Mindscape’s Like a Rag is also on my top twenty list. It rose a few notches when I met the man behind the tune, Andor of Mindscape, at one of my shows. After that show, we didn’t stop listening to the tunes and he invited me over to check out some new tunes. In the course of that long morning, he even began a new tune (with some inspiration from me, hehe) which he has completed but which can’t be played online just yet. Yes, it has been a little longer than usual as I have been doing what the title suggests. I have to be honest with you; at first, I didn’t really know what I was thinking about when I made this mix. But then, amidst all the crap around me, I realized that all I need to do is keep the dogs at bay. So this is that sentiment come to fruition. It all really started when I heard Gatecrasher again recently; I just knew it had to be in a mix. While this mix is a departure from the usual liquid goodness, it nonetheless packs a punch, albeit in quite a different way. Some very, very deep bass lines run throughout on tunes such as Resolute and Bassline Rumble, but the cream of the crop of this bunch just has to be Burning, Squash, Scrabble and, of course, Gatecrasher. The bass lines alone on all these tunes will knock you out if you stand too close to the speakers. I also forayed into mastering and added some bass enhancement to the final product so that when you turn it up, you will definitely feel it. Enjoy!
