I’ve been thinking over the past few months about the Phuture Frequency and Motion Podcasts and if there is any point of having two separate Podcasts when they could be potentially merged.
The plus side of putting all the Motion shows on Phuture Frequency would be a much more varied selection of genres and some extremely professional sounding radio shows being added to the archive. It will also give much more exposure to the current Motion djs. However, this would no longer make the Phuture Frequency podcast a Drum ‘n’ Bass only podcast (although it still will remain a predominantly d’n'b podcast) and this could potentially annoy people.
So, if you could spare approximately 3 seconds of your time by giving us your opinion in the poll below then we will love you forever.

would be good if it was in a different section, or page of the pfradio site but not on the same page. dnb first as it’s always been a dnb site.
just my 2 pence worth.

Think its a good idea, depends what genres i suppose…House, Electro, Oldskool e.t.c all good, as long as its stays within dance music.

I agree with Neil S in a way,
It is a DnB site,
But to extend the genres will mean more listeners,
And potentially more listeners do the DnB Casts =D

as a Motion Radio dj, as much as i like the idea of merging the two podcasts, there’s something to be said for what Phuture Frequency has built flying the drum and bass banner. i myself can attest to the fact that my love for d&b has been rekindled due to the site. it is my understanding that it has been its own entity for a few years now – changing that up could definitely cause some friction.
Motion Radio is still a new thing, just coming up on a year old. integrating it into PFRadio.com with a separate section dedicated to it was a smart decision, which has already shown increased downloads for those shows. while it’s not the number that many Phuture Frequency shows currently get, i believe that the quality of the Motion shows have serious staying power and will grab the ears of listeners new and old with time. both podcasts are on the same site with Motion being the younger sibling and i dig that. once you start integrating the two into the same feed…it could get problematic. i’d like to think that the variety of genres would go over well, but it could ruffle some feathers of the PF faithful.
i’d say keep Motion Radio as part of PFRadio.com, but as its own feed. at the end of the day, the majority vote rules, so we’ll see what happens…

Thanks for that man, really appreciate your feedback.
The thing is that I am constantly blown away by the standard of the shows on Motion, they rival what’s gets churned out on main stream FM stations and it just saddens me that they don’t get the exposure they deserve.

How about this…
If the Motion shows were added to the Phuture Frequency podcast, but in the show name [MOTION] was added to clearly indicate that it’s a Motion show and may not contain dnb, how would that go down?
Thoughts?

continued…
The motion shows would still be separate on the pfradio website (like they are now) and the users would be able to still filter out genres.
Good?

I download all the PF and Motion podcasts at the moment – so I’m ok with that!

+ The problem mainly lies in the people who don’t visit the site but who subscribe on iTunes to a dnb podcast… Hmm…
Maybe just more intense promotion of Motion is needed?

poll option “yes” has been merged into “yes – but no indie crap”. I don’t really want any of that indie shite on the site anyway.

i’m tempted to remove my ‘yes’ vote in place of us doing the same as we are but doing more to push Motion as a separate entity.
in fact i will – i’ll vote 2x’no’ to redress the balance (and confuse everything)

Hi there,
my personal opinion is that with the current state of the dnb scene and with the fact that PF Radio is primarily known as a dnb station, from the live streaming days till the podcast service, I conclude the following things:
- personally, after 15yrs+ I am alienated with most of the dnb out there without saying AT ALL that there isn’t any good music coming out, there is and the small really good stuff blows me away(plus we do still post our d2 dnb.jungle mixes) but I can’t think of PFR being solely dnb in 2008/09 and beyond.
- We can keep PFR as it is and promote Motion MORE as it REALLY does come out with beautiful diverse mixes that shows that PFR DJs are well educated/diverse and not stuck in one genre which anyway and without a doubt is stuck in a stale transitional period these last 12-18months(AGAIN, I am not saying it’s not on, it’s just not so cutting edge as it used to be for any reason unrelated to this post here)
- Fianlly I believe that in the next year or so both services will eventually merge.
These our my views

Ok well the poll closed at 34 people saying yes and 29 saying no. Personally I think the divide is too close for any immediate action to be taken. So Phuture Frequency and Motion, for now, will not be merged.
The bottom line is that Motion needs to be promoted more, needs dedicated people running it and more djs contributing to it. One of the reasons why I wanted to merge was that it would be easier for me to manage one podcast than it is managing two. Richard was on board for a while, but basically did f*ck all and it was still even me handling the responses he’d write to djs in emails. Lame.
I’ve been thinking about the idea of changing the site layout so it displays both the latest motion show and the latest pfr show – both parallel, but this will take a lot of work and I’m already pretty loaded up with stuff.
Any ideas?

so, it’s waaaay after the fact, but I’ll throw in my two cents. If it’s a matter of the volume of work and coordination AND if it’s a matter of Motion not doing well, maybe it’s time to make a hard business decision about whether or not Motion is worth continuing at all. Perhaps you could take the energy you’d put into Motion and really beef up Phuture Frequency.
With that said, I don’t think PF is lacking in anything, but as the administrator, I’m sure there’s stuff that you’ve always wanted to do with the site, but haven’t had time for.
Just a thought…..

Since this post first started, I’ve recruited someone to help out with Motion. We’re going to meet in the next couple weeks to discuss the future of Motion and where we’ll take it. So 2009 should see an increase of popularity with the service.
