Phuture Frequency smashes the 400 barrier

February 26th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Sorry to interrupt the bombardment of shows by Q the Physicist (who seems to have some kind of crack-esque addiction to posting up mixes!) but I wanted to let you all know that today we smashed the 400 barrier for number of subscribers. The total being 432 current subscribers to the stream.

Hurrah!

We still need people to donate to the station as we have no money and need to pay hosting fees, so if you like the site PLEASE help us out and donate whatever you can afford!

Q the PhysicistIn keeping with the motto of the site “Music to make your daily commute that little bit more interesting,” this week I present to you the Commuter’s Special. According to info haphazardly obtained from the net, the average commute is approximately 25 minutes to work and the same coming back so I decided to make a series of mixes to fit into that time frame. All of the upcoming mixes are approximately 25 minutes in length and each day for the next week I will present you two mixes: one for the morning commute and one for the evening. The styles vary according to day and reflect how I feel for that day but, of course, you may feel differently so once you have downloaded them all, feel free to mix and match as the mood suits you.

Monday morning – Yes it’s back to the grind but remember not to work too hard

icon for podpress  Exceeding Expectation (57:36): Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (1636)

This week’s set is inspired by the simple fact that a couple of these tunes have just been randomly popping into my head, I suppose because I like them so much. Obviously Red Sky, Wishing on a Star and especially How You Gonna Feel have had some sort of effect on me, albeit subconsciously, so I felt compelled to make a mix including these tunes. The Commix tune really shines through because of the Steve Spacek vocals which tug and pull on you all the way through the tune. Other notable tunes in the set include Rated X (with one of my favorite harder dnb producers, Cable, on the remix) and Tonight, both released in 2008. In my opinion, this mix should be listened to first thing in the morning to start your day.

Exceeding Expectation

1. Total Science - Rated X (Cable Remix) (~0:45)
2. John B - Red Sky (~3:35)
3. Implex feat. Mav - Chasm (~7:33)
4. DJ Marky and Makoto and A Side - Tonight (~10:04)
5. Pendulum - Sounds Of Life (~12:12)
6. Makoto and Specialist - Different Story (~15:30)
7. Commix feat. Steve Spacek - How You Gonna Feel (~17:40)
8. Future Prophecies - Deceived (~21:35)
9. DJ Friction and Nu Balance - Soul Surfer (~25:10)
10. DJ Marky and XRS - Backspin (~28:25)
11. Logistics - Everything Is Illuminated (~31:40)
12. DJ Roots, Bungle & The Ego - Conquest System (~33:50)
13. Bungle feat. Laura Pacheco - Resized (~37:25)
14. Craggz & Parallel Forces - Lost In Translation (~39:35)
15. Style Control - Make it Happen (~42:28)
16. Jazz Thieves - Good Inside (~45:20)
17. Unknown - Wishing On a Star (~48:34)
18. Bad Company - Dr Schevago (~50:42)

This week I rediscover Ursula Rucker, spoken word artist whose powerful words can move the world, methinks. Her 2001 album, Supa Sista, is the source for three of the four tracks featured here; the fourth, Loveless, is a 4Hero tune. While not too spectacularly fast drum and bass wise, the songs have nice grooves that incorporate well with the mix. Most of the mix is driven by female vocals (except for Honey and Brown Boy) and while the spoken word might be a bit weighty at times, the rest of the tunes (London Elektricity and The Funktastics figure prominently in the mix) all have nice liquid grooves that should keep your head bobbing as you listen. You just might even be inspired to write a poem or two after listening to this mix. I know I was!

Womansong

1. A-Sides - Imagination (0:45)
>>4 Hero feat. Ursula Rucker - Loveless
2. Ursula Rucker feat. Vickie Miles - Letter To A Sister Friend (~4:41)
>> London Elektricity - Dirty Dozen (Landmass remix)
3. D Bridge feat. Jenna G - Silent Wonder (~7:56)
4. The Funktastics - Honey (~11:53)
5. Motion feat. Hanna - The Sun at Five AM (~13:19)
6. The Funktastics - Angel Story (~16:54)
7. Ursula Rucker feat. Ovasoul7 - Brown Boy (~19:48)
>> Alix Perez - Morning Sun
8. Alix Perez and Specific - Just Memories (~27:42)
9. Nu:Tone feat. Jenna G - You (~31:18)
10. DJ Teebee - April Dawn (~33:48)
11. Ursula Rucker – Womansong (~35:05)
12. London Elektricity - Main Ingredient (SKC remix) (~39:29)

Q the PhysicistThis week I picked up the new double album “Eat Phunk!” from the boys over at Phunkfiction Records and was so blown away by the tunes on it that this week’s mix is dedicated to and is a showcase for the Phunkfiction crew. The mix is aptly named “Solid Foundations.” The Phunkfiction tunes, marked in bold, are absolutely wicked and mix together very well incidentally: pay particular attention to Madmen and Poets - It’s Not Right, Amaning - Tranquility and Donnie Dubson - Summer Came. Also of note, though not from the Phunkfiction album, is the Ben Sage tune Just a Minute which is a real nice addition to this set. Once again, it’s all liquid, baby! So without further adieu, I present to you the Solid Foundations mix. Enjoy.

Solid Foundations

1. Incident - Neverland (~0:43)
2. Lomax and Eveson - Under The Bridge (~2:52)

3. Bassface Sascha and Franksen - System Blow (~6:27)

Motion Radio.

Motion is a new sister site of Phuture Frequency that offers a brand new podcast from a global roster of DJs. Styles played on the new site are very diverse, including hip hop, soul, jazz, funk, house, techno, broken beat, IDM, ambient and much more!

You can visit the site at the following address: http://www.motionradio.co.uk.

The site is in its very early stages, so if you can suggest any features then please get in contact with us using the contact page on www.pfradio.com.

We really need your help!

Well, in true Phuture Frequency fashion, as things are going incredibly well, something goes horribly wrong. Where shall I start? The good, or the bad news?

Well in true British style I will start with the bad. As it’s pretty damn bad…

Today our main advertiser (those crappy little text links you never noticed at the bottom of the page that actually paid for the running of the entire site) decided to pull the plug on our funding so now the station has minimal (read: no) funds. :-(

I am not really too keen on putting too many adverts on the site, I am sure none of you would want to see adverts for dating websites or annoying scroll-over ads for custom animated emoticons that shout “OH MA DAYZ….BITE MEH WHUT WHUT!!!” plastered all over the site. But if you do start to see more ads popping up then remember one thing, it’s just to pay our hosting.

Our hosting is pretty cheap, so what I think is a better idea is to ask that if you enjoy this website, please donate any amount you can to keep it going. We need to raise just over $250 to keep Phuture Frequency and all it’s related websites (we’re launching a new sister site very soon…!) running for a year.

So if you’re feeling generous then hit the following button and donate whatever you can!!

Finally, the good news is that we have hit 350 subscribers to the Podcast! If you just come to the site and click play on the players, you can make your life a lot easier by visiting the ‘Subscribe To Podcast’ page on this site. :)
